5G is Coming to Pakistan: IT Ministry Sets June 2025 Launch Date

The long-awaited 5G revolution in Pakistan is officially on the horizon! The Ministry of IT and Telecom has announced a detailed timeline for launching 5G services, targeting a June 2025 rollout.

According to documents presented in Parliament, telecom operators will begin rolling out 5G networks across the country starting July 2025. This development is a significant leap forward in enhancing connectivity, supporting digital transformation, and driving economic growth in Pakistan.

What’s Next?

  • February 2025: Recommendations from a consultant to the Spectrum Advisory Committee will be finalized.
  • March 2025: Policy reforms addressing spectrum pricing, trading conditions, and taxation will be completed.
  • April 2025: The federal government is expected to approve a policy directive.
  • May 2025: Auctioning of key spectrum bands, including 3500 MHz, 2600 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 700 MHz, will take place.

However, there’s a potential roadblock. The merger between PTCL and Telenor must be approved by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to avoid delays in the process. If this hurdle is not cleared in time, the 5G rollout could face setbacks.

The introduction of 5G promises faster internet speeds, improved reliability, and enhanced opportunities in industries ranging from healthcare to education and beyond.

Stay tuned as Pakistan prepares to join the global 5G club!
