Safety concerns have been raised within Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after the PIA Cabin Crew Association questioned the implementation of international crew-rest regulations.
According to a report by the 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday, the association has formally communicated its concerns to the airline’s chief executive officer, calling attention to what it described as negligence in applying relevant international regulations.

In its letter, the PIA Cabin Crew Association pointed to two communications issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on the same day.
According to the association, one letter stated that double rest would be mandatory for crew members following 12 hours of flying. However, a second communication reportedly deferred the implementation of the crew-rest requirement.
The association said the differing instructions had created uncertainty and raised questions about how the regulations are being applied.
The cabin crew association also warned that inadequate rest could increase the risk of serious incidents. It stressed that reasonable recovery time is important for crew members who are responsible for passenger safety during flights.
The concerns have also been linked to a recent incident involving a Jeddah-bound PIA flight, during which an emergency door slide was reportedly opened. The association said the incident raised questions about the fitness level of the crew and called for the circumstances to be examined carefully.
Rather than drawing conclusions from the incident, the association urged authorities to assess the matter from all relevant angles and conduct a proper investigation.
The PIA Cabin Crew Association has asked the relevant authorities to take the issue seriously, particularly because both passengers and crew could be affected by decisions concerning flight duty and rest requirements.
The association further warned that if the matter is not addressed in accordance with the applicable regulations, it may seek legal recourse through the courts.
With aviation safety depending heavily on well-rested and properly prepared flight crews, the concerns have placed renewed attention on the importance of clear and consistent implementation of crew-rest requirements.
