Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in London on Saturday for a brief stopover en route to the United States, where he will attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23 to 27.

The Prime Minister is set to spend two days in London before continuing to the US. After landing at Heathrow Airport on Saturday evening, he headed to his apartment near Edgware Road in central London.

According to a Foreign Office spokesperson, the Prime Minister will engage with global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, participating in discussions on rising sea levels and leadership for peace.

He plans to urge the international community to take decisive action against climate change and combat Islamophobia. The spokesperson also noted that he will emphasize the need for reforms in the international financial system and address longstanding issues such as the Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir conflicts.

During the UNGA session, the Prime Minister will attend several high-level meetings, including the High-level Meeting on Existential Threats Posed by Sea-level Rise and the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Leadership for Peace.

He will reaffirm his support for the UN’s role in fostering global peace, security, and prosperity. Before leaving for New York, the Prime Minister took to the social media platform “X” to express his commitment to representing Pakistan’s perspective on international matters.

Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar would not attend the UNGA session due to important diplomatic commitments and preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Islamabad.
