Swara Bhasker’s X Account Permanently Suspended Over Copyright Issue
Posted on February 3, 2025 by News Desk
Renowned actor and outspoken activist Swara Bhasker has found herself in the midst of yet another controversy. This time, her official X (formerly Twitter) account has been permanently suspended due to alleged copyright infringement. The actor, known for her fearless stance on social and political matters, has vehemently opposed the decision, calling it “ridiculous and untenable.”
What Led to the Suspension?
Swara took to Instagram to share her ordeal, explaining that her X account was locked and later permanently disabled due to two flagged images that were reportedly in violation of copyright policies.
One of the flagged images included an orange background with Hindi text in Devanagari script that read: “Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa Hain, Tere Qaatil Zinda Hain”—a widely recognized slogan associated with progressive movements in India. Swara argued that this slogan is a form of modern folk idiom and cannot be subjected to copyright claims.
Swara Bhasker Speaks Out
Expressing her dismay, Swara questioned the validity of the copyright claims, particularly regarding an image featuring her own child. She wrote:
“How can this possibly be a copyright infringement? Who has a copyright on my child’s likeness? Both of these complaints are ridiculous and untenable by any rational, logical, and objective understanding of any legal definition of copyright.”
A Call for Reconsideration
In her Instagram statement, Swara appealed to X to review and reverse their decision, stating that the complaints appear to be part of a mass-reporting campaign aimed at harassing her and suppressing her right to freedom of speech and expression. She urged the platform to ensure a fair evaluation of such cases instead of allowing arbitrary suspensions.
Online Backlash & Public Support
As expected, Swara’s account suspension has sparked significant discussion across social media platforms. While some critics believe platforms have the right to enforce strict copyright laws, many of her supporters see this as an attack on free speech. The debate surrounding social media censorship and mass reporting has once again come into the spotlight.
Will X reconsider its decision? Only time will tell.
