Renowned for portraying resilient, impact-driven female leads, Taapsee Pannu is setting firm new boundaries for her acting career. The Bollywood star has revealed that she is actively turning down scripts that threaten to restrict her to a single, predictable niche. Seeking fresh artistic challenges, Pannu is shifting her focus toward dynamic narratives that surprise her audience rather than reinforcing familiar tropes.

Reflecting on her professional journey, the actress noted how easily Bollywood categorizes female performers into specific boxes—often sorting talent strictly between glamorous commercial roles and intense, socially charged dramas. Early in her career, Pannu gravitated toward unconventional, complex roles in part because traditional heroine parts were scarce. While she remains proud of those career-defining performances, she openly admits that repeating the same formula is no longer mentally fulfilling.
This shift in perspective has led Pannu to turn down several projects recently. She shared that she is transparent with filmmakers when she feels a script is too formulaic, even pointing out when an audience could easily guess the movie’s ending simply by seeing her name attached to the project. Instead, she aims to take on roles that viewers wouldn’t traditionally expect from her.
Pannu credited past projects like Soorma, Mission Mangal, and Dunki with giving her the space to step away from overly intense archetypes and display her versatility. Looking ahead, fans can see her push boundaries once again in her upcoming feature, Gandhari, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on September 3.
