Pakistani actress Afshan Qureshi has spoken candidly about a challenging period in her life, recalling the financial difficulties she faced while raising her family after the death of her husband.

The veteran performer recently appeared on Nadia Khan’s morning show Rise and Shine, where she reflected on some of the hardships that shaped her journey in the entertainment industry.

Afshan is also known to Pakistani audiences as the mother of actor Faysal Quraishi. Her own career, however, has spanned television and film, with performances in dramas including Bheegi Palkain, Baba Jani, Sheher E Malal, Mein Mehru Hun, Umeed, Siraat e Mustaqeem, and Sila Aur Jannat.

A Career Built Through Difficult Circumstances

During the conversation, Afshan revisited her early years in Karachi and recalled producing a drama at Adam Ji Hall in 1980. The production eventually resulted in a financial loss after she said some of the artists involved demanded advance payments and later left the project.

She explained that she had to sell her cars to meet those financial commitments. The setback left her with debts to repay and marked a particularly difficult phase in her life.

Rather than stepping away from work, Afshan looked for different ways to support herself. She recalled making macramé items and selling them at Meena Bazaar, a job she continued for approximately four months.

Her account offers a glimpse into the less visible side of an entertainment career, particularly during periods when professional opportunities and financial stability were uncertain.

The Phone Call That Changed Her Circumstances

Afshan also shared a deeply personal moment from that period. After months of trying to manage her circumstances, she said she prayed for help during Namaz.

Soon afterward, she received a call from a director asking where she was and inviting her to join a drama.

For Afshan, the opportunity provided a route back into acting at a time when she was facing considerable financial pressure.

Remembering Her Late Husband

Afshan was married to actor Abid Qureshi, whom she met through their work in the film industry. The two developed a friendship before eventually marrying.

Abid died when their son Faysal Quraishi was still young. His death became another major turning point in Afshan’s life as she continued moving forward while dealing with both personal and financial challenges.

Today, Afshan is recognized for her work across Pakistani television and film, particularly for roles in which she has portrayed negative characters.

Her recent conversation on Rise and Shine provided a rare opportunity to hear about the struggles behind that career and the determination that helped her continue working through difficult circumstances.

Afshan Qureshi’s story is ultimately a reflection of a long career shaped not only by performances on screen but also by the challenges she faced away from the spotlight.
