SNAPCHAT’S NEW ‘FOOTSTEPS’ FEATURE TRACKS YOUR LOCATION HISTORY

Snapchat is rolling out its new “Footsteps” feature to all iOS users this week, following an initial release for Snapchat+ subscribers.
The feature, confirmed by Snapchat on Monday, uses Snap Map to track users’ travels and shows how much of the world they’ve explored, according to a report by TechCrunch. When users activate Footsteps for the first time, it gathers data from their Snaps saved in Memories to calculate previous travel activity.
Going forward, the feature uses real-time location data to provide personalized travel footprints on the map.
To use Footsteps, users must turn off Snap Map’s Ghost Mode. The feature is private by default, meaning only the user can view their tracked movements. Users can also turn off tracking or clear their travel data at any time through their profile settings.
Snapchat’s move to enhance Snap Map differentiates it from competitors like Instagram and TikTok, neither of which currently offers a similar feature. However, Instagram has announced that it is developing a “Friends Map.”
Snapchat has also confirmed that Footsteps will soon be available on Android.
