In a historic moment for The Voice Season 26, an artist has made a comeback after a 13-year hiatus, becoming the first contestant to return after previously being part of a team. Felsmere, formerly known as Kelsey Rey, stunned both viewers and judges with her powerful performance of “Some Kind of Wonderful” on the September 30th episode, earning a spot on Gwen Stefani’s team.
Felsmere first competed in Season 1 of The Voice under her real name, Kelsey Rey, where she impressed judges Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Christina Aguilera with her rendition of “American Boy.” She joined Team CeeLo but was eliminated after the Battles. Now, 13 years later at 33, she’s back with a new sound and renewed confidence, making her the first artist to rejoin the competition after already being on a team.
Her unprecedented return has sparked buzz among fans, many of whom were surprised, as it’s rare for former team members to compete again. Typically, only those who didn’t advance past the Blind Auditions are given another chance. Felsmere’s return breaks the norm, signaling a shift in the show’s evolving rules.
During her performance, both Gwen Stefani and Michael Bublé turned their chairs, but it was Stefani who successfully added Felsmere to her team. This decision could be game-changing, as Felsmere’s growth and experience over the years have made her a formidable competitor.
Reflecting on her journey, Felsmere shared, “Season 1 was the best experience of my life, but I was young and timid. I’m coming back with a new sound, and I hope the coaches love it.”
As The Voice continues to deliver surprises, Felsmere’s return sets a new precedent, leaving fans excited to see how the rest of Season 26 will unfold. Catch The Voice on NBC every Monday and Tuesday to follow the season’s developments.
