Elon Musk Accuses Ukraine of Cyber Attack on X: Pro-Palestinian Dark Storm Team Claims Responsibility
Posted on March 11, 2025 by News Desk

Elon Musk has stirred global attention by suggesting that Ukraine was behind a major cyber attack on X (formerly Twitter), which led to widespread outages on Monday. The attack, described as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, was claimed by Dark Storm Team, a pro-Palestinian hacker group.
What Happened?
On March 10, 2025, X users around the world reported massive connectivity issues, with at least three major disruptions affecting the platform. According to Downdetector, over 40,000 complaints flooded in regarding the site’s unavailability.
Shortly after, Dark Storm Team took responsibility for the attack via Telegram, boasting about successfully “taking Twitter offline”. They also shared a screenshot displaying failed connection attempts across multiple regions.
Elon Musk’s Response
Musk responded to the incident in a post on X, stating:
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against 𝕏. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”
Later, speaking to Fox News’ Larry Kudlow, Musk revealed that the attack seemed to originate from IP addresses in the Ukraine region. While he didn’t directly blame the Ukrainian government, his statements led to speculations about potential state involvement.
Who Is the Dark Storm Team?
Dark Storm Team is a pro-Palestinian cyber group known for targeting NATO countries and organizations that support Israel. Their latest attack aligns with their history of disrupting entities linked to Israel and Western allies, particularly following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
Cybersecurity experts believe Dark Storm Team has ties to Russian cyber groups, though no concrete evidence has surfaced yet. Orange Cyberdefense, a leading cybersecurity firm, suggests a strong connection between the group and Russian hacker networks.
Geopolitical Implications
The incident raises major concerns regarding:
- Cyber warfare: If state actors are involved, this could escalate into a broader cyber conflict.
- Misinformation & propaganda: The attribution of cyber attacks remains complex, and claims of responsibility can be manipulated for political reasons.
- Security of digital platforms: Large-scale DDoS attacks can cripple online platforms, highlighting the vulnerabilities of major tech giants.
With growing tensions in global politics, this attack adds another layer of complexity to the Ukraine-Russia war, Middle Eastern conflicts, and the role of cyber warfare in modern geopolitical struggles.
