Wasim Akram Shares the Sweet Reason Shaniera Didn’t Join Him for Hajj

Former Pakistani cricket captain and world-renowned commentator Wasim Akram recently fulfilled a deeply personal milestone by performing Hajj. While fans across the globe celebrated his spiritual journey, many wondered why his wife, Shaniera Akram, was not by his side during the pilgrimage.

During a recent guest appearance on Maliha Rehman’s popular digital talk show, the beloved power couple addressed the curiosity surrounding Shaniera’s absence and shared their thoughtful approach to fulfilling these sacred rites together in the future.

A Balanced Approach to a Sacred Journey

Addressing the social media inquiries directly, Wasim explained that taking things step-by-step makes the most sense for their family context. Because Hajj is a physically demanding and intense experience, he believes experiencing Umrah first will help Shaniera ease into the rituals before undertaking the full pilgrimage.

“A lot of people were asking me on social media why Shaniera didn’t go to perform Hajj with me,” Wasim shared during the interview. “I think Shaniera’s first step would be Umrah to understand about it, and then we will go to Hajj.”

Focusing on the Spiritual Experience

Shaniera, fondly dubbed Pakistan’s “National Bhabhi” for her active civic engagement and deep affection for the country, echoed her husband’s sentiments. She highlighted the importance of allowing Wasim to completely immerse himself in his personal spiritual milestone without extra worry.

“He needed to go first,” Shaniera explained. “I think it would be the last thing for him to be thinking about me when he was focused on Hajj. I didn’t want him to distract himself as it was quite a special time for him.”

She reassured fans that a joint pilgrimage is definitely in their future plans. “Yes, we will go one day, Insha’Allah. I think that was his journey, and he needed to celebrate it.”

Wasim reflected on the sacred pilgrimage as a transformative milestone, calling the experience a deeply meaningful personal gift to himself for his birthday.
