Fire at Rimpa Plaza Doused After Hours of Heroic Efforts

In a harrowing incident on Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at Rimpa Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi, causing panic and drawing an extensive firefighting operation. The blaze, which began on the fourth floor of the building, was successfully extinguished after hours of relentless effort by rescue teams.

Swift Response by Emergency Services

Rescue 1122 reported that two ambulances, four fire trucks, and a snorkel were dispatched immediately to the site. Firefighters faced numerous challenges, including the poor ventilation in the building, which hampered the evacuation of smoke and complicated their efforts to contain the fire.

The fourth floor housed various spare parts godowns, offices, shops, and even a clinic, making the fire particularly dangerous. To improve accessibility for the teams, glass panels of the building were broken, and additional fire tenders were deployed to intensify the firefighting operation. Foam was used to suppress the flames more effectively.

Support from Pakistan Navy and Local Authorities

In a remarkable show of coordination, a Pakistan Navy team joined the rescue operation, bolstering efforts to control the blaze. To ensure an uninterrupted water supply, an emergency was declared at the NIPA hydrant, with water tankers continuously dispatched to the site.

Karachi Traffic Police also played a vital role in ensuring safety by diverting traffic near Saeed Manzil towards Regal Chowk and Gul Plaza.

Evacuation and Safety Measures

Authorities confirmed that all individuals inside the building were safely evacuated, averting any casualties. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the fire, instructing emergency services to take swift action and requesting a detailed report from Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.

The Aftermath and Importance of Safety

This incident highlights the importance of building safety regulations, particularly regarding ventilation systems, which could play a critical role in mitigating the impact of such fires. As Karachi continues to grow as a bustling metropolis, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards is crucial to preventing similar incidents in the future.
