The Sindh government is taking a remarkable step toward creating job opportunities for unemployed youth while promoting eco-friendly transportation. In a groundbreaking initiative, electric vehicles (EVs) will be provided as taxis to jobless individuals on easy installment plans. This visionary move not only aims to generate sustainable livelihoods but also addresses the growing concern for environmental conservation.
Under the leadership of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the transport department is set to collaborate with banks and financial institutions to develop feasible financial models. These plans will ensure affordable repayment options, enabling drivers to achieve full ownership of their taxis over time.
The initiative is a result of consultations with experts from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company. Minister Memon emphasized the dual impact of this scheme: reducing emissions and tackling unemployment in the region.
“This EV taxi scheme is not just about employment; it’s about creating a sustainable future for our youth and our environment,” stated Minister Memon.
The scheme is set to launch soon, with the first batch of EV taxis hitting the roads. This initiative is expected to pave the way for affordable, eco-conscious urban mobility, marking a significant milestone in Sindh’s journey toward sustainability and inclusivity.
